finally got the chance to read this. I'm with you that I back his personal beliefs whether I agree wit them or not, but that this wasn't the time or place to express them. It puts the rest of the team in an awkward position because they all get asked repeatedly about it.
That people are freaking out about it still days later is driving me mental. (also thanks for pointing out the Theo parallel since it seems the talking heads all skip over that one). hopefully once the ASG is over this will all stop and we can get back to more important things like winning meaningful hockey games.

I don't agree that you need to respect the country if you don't believe in their politics. Bold political statements are rare and I support anyone who can use their celebrity status to do so. That being said, he detracted from his teammates big day which was really a classless move, IMO. This was not the time of place for such a statement. He alienated his team, and tens of thousands of fans that have stood behind him.

Thanks for posting this. I kind of think this is all much ado about nothing. I am sure his teammates had an awesome time without him. I can't help thinking someday he'll regret having made that choice. But maybe not.

But isn't it great we all get to make our own mistakes?

"The Chicago Blackhawks team logo was created by Irene Castle, wife of team founder and coffee tycoon Major Frederic McLaughlin, in 1926 at the team's inception into the NHL. McLaughlin chose the 'Blackhawks' nickname in recognition of his time as commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. His Division was nicknamed "Blackhawk Division" after a Native American of the Sauk nation, Chief Black Hawk, who was a prominent figure in the history of Illinois. Throughout the franchise's history, the logo has undergone minor changes but still closely resembles its original presentation."

I have to say that first of all, Pete still has great hair.

Second, since I've lost my Thrashers, I feel intensely envious of everyone of has a team to cheer for. That your team has all this amazing history and numbers retired, makes that feeling even more acute. I seem to see everything through that prism now -- none of my favorite players will have their number retired in Atlanta, and it's so sad. (No #13 -- or #17 -- hanging from the Philips Arena rafters. Alas!)

It sounds like it was an awesome night. I am also jealous you got to see Foppa one last time and shake his hand.

>> In fact, by Avalanche standards, this was exceptionally extravagant. <<

Ha ha!!

Fantastic to see some of our favorite, former NHL players drawing out their professional careers as long as possible. It only makes those leagues better!

I met him when he was with the Bears; he was dating a neighbor of mine who knew I was a hockey fan so she was nice enough to introduce me. He told me Mike Keane was his favorite player and then got to play with him in CO and win the cup with Ray Bourque. Truly a nice guy. Best of luck to him in Columbus.
